Principal Data and Research Analysts report to unclassified or executive managers. They are responsible for overseeing a portfolio of projects, which could include an organization’s entire data analysis function. They also provide advice to the organization’s leadership on strategic decisions for data analysis functions, and they serve as liaisons with other County departments and external organizations to establish, maintain, and strengthen strategic partnerships. They have significant training and experience in advanced data analysis methods and can manage individual data analysis projects.

Data and Research Analysts conduct data analysis and research to inform decisions related to policies, resource allocations, and operations. Incumbents are privy to highly confidential and sensitive information regarding decision-making processes on operational issues. There may also be contact with individuals who have encounters with County departments in various sectors, including but not limited to criminal justice, medical, environmental, and social services data with regards to data collection or projects.
